The First 23 Seconds
A visual exploration of "Stronger" by Kanye West feat. Daft Punk
A visual exploration of "Stronger" by Kanye West feat. Daft Punk
This is a personal exploration of the concept of the visualization of sound and typography. I decided to create the first 23 seconds of one of my favorite songs, a combination of two of my favorite artists Kanye West and Daft Punk. Using the web as its original digital medium, it is made so the user would need to scroll down to reveal the full piece sequentially much as a song is revealed to you on a timeline.
The first step was studying the waveform of the first 23 seconds of "Stronger" by Kanye West featuring Daft Punk. Music Video (Roc-A-Fella Records, LLC.) Then establish the timing of how the lyrics of the Daft Punk sample would be juxtaposed with the Kayne West rapping sequence using the full image as a timeline. Example: The words "stronger" said by the Daft Punk sample would line up with with the words "stronger" in Kayne's rap.

Reflective of what I could hear, I wanted to depict the Daft Punk sample ( instrumental ) as a robust connected robotic sequence fluctuating in color and visual crescendo and decrescendo.
Much like the song, The Kanye West rap lyrics would then be overlaid on top as a visually penetrating array of energy bursts interwoven like a web.
After establishing the visual language of the typography on the timeline of the song, it was then time to fill in the representations of secondary aural qualities such as the bass kick; with destructive aftershocks resonating from the zero point and vocal cadences; through repetition of letters to represent enunciation.
